Uniting people, organizations, and philanthropy to create a thriving community for all.
Founded in 1991 by a group of caring and passionate Boone County residents, an initial amount of $15,000, and funds from Lilly Endowment Inc. with the goal of building resources that would benefit nonprofits and residents of Boone County forever. Today, CFBC holds nearly $38 million in assets and has granted more than $31 million to nonprofit organizations and programs working to solve critical challenges in Boone County.
We engage the community and educate citizens on how they can make a difference here at home.
We invest in the people, programs, and organizations that transform lives and communities.
We lead a vision for collaborative solutions to address the root causes of challenges facing our community in diverse and equitable ways.
2024 was an impactful year for us. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and partners, our net assets exceeded $37 million for the first time in our 34-year history, and we received more than $2.2 M in philanthropic contributions.
Our staff and board members are dedicated to fostering positive change and community growth. Their commitment and passion are instrumental in driving impactful initiatives and making meaningful contributions to our community.
We have a strong group of community partners and volunteers who support our Staff and Board to make everything we do possible. Looking ahead, we are excited about the path in front of us!
CFBC’s grant to Witham Family YMCA made a signifi cant impact on the lives of children in underserved areas, offering them important skills that will last a lifetime. Thanks to the grant, the YMCA was able to offer free swim lessons and water safety programs to children from Firefly Children & Family Alliance, the Lebanon Boys & Girls Club, and Mental Health America of Boone County. This collaboration between local organizations has not only provided access to vital aquatics education, but has also helped foster relationships between nonprofits that hadn’t worked together before.
“This CFBC grant is truly life saving. It gave us the opportunity to reach out to underserved families and offer them skills that can make a huge difference in their children’s safety.”
In total, 113 children received four swim lessons, and 50 participated in the Safety Around the Water program, learning how to stay safe in and around water.
CFBC launched a series of Think Tanks in 2024 to dive into the underlying causes of issues affecting our community. By fostering collaborative discussions and innovative solutions, we cultivated a more sustainable and impactful approach to addressing and resolving local challenges. We had seven Think Tank sessions, with 70 attendees representing 63 organizations.
Through the Think Tanks, CFBC identified the top challenges our community faces. Boone County is experiencing rapid growth, leading to increased language barriers and a lack of translation services across local institutions such as schools, hospitals, and nonprofits. Other pressing community needs identified in the Think Tanks include a lack of public transportation, affordable housing, quality childcare, and storage space for nonprofits. Underemployment was identified as a larger issue than unemployment.
Boone County Nonprofit Network offers opportunities to connect and collaborate with nonprofit peers serving Boone County.
In 2024, the Boone County Nonprofit Network was joined by 290 attendees, who came together to learn, collaborate, and network together on the topics of Connect Boone County, Grantwriting, Fundraising & Fundraisers, and Human Resources.
Women of Impact Boone County is a philanthropic women’s group designed to provide financial support for local nonprofit organizations, while creating a sense of community. Each member donates annually— the amount based on the membership type—to support the four nonprofits selected by the members throughout the year.
Joining Women of Impact is a commitment to bettering our community, together. Each member’s donation is not just money—it’s creating ripple effects in our community.

Emily (Faggetti) Welch always knew she wanted to give back to the community that invested so deeply into her. As a 2009 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship recipient from Western Boone High School, Emily attended Purdue University to study elementary education. She returned to Western Boone schools upon graduation, taught kindergarten and fourth grade at Thorntown Elementary School, and coached junior high soccer. Because of her scholarship, she was able to attend Butler University only three years later to pursue her Master’s Degree in Education Administration and serve as an assistant principal in Clinton County.
Emily switched gears in 2022, making the difficult decision to leave education and serve her community in a different way. Having grown up in a rural area, she understands the importance of agriculture in Boone County. Now in her career with Corteva Agriscience, she is able to impact an industry that she is passionate about.
Emily continues to be an active member of the Lilly Scholars Network, and volunteers with Habitat for Humanity. She resides in Whitestown with her husband Dan, son Graham (4), and daughter Grace (2).
“I loved going back to teach at the school system I attended, and I loved having the opportunity to live and work in the community I grew up in. Through my teaching career I met my husband, which may have never happened if I hadn’t come back home.”
As a community foundation, building permanent charitable assets is at the heart of our mission. By growing and stewarding these resources, we ensure that Boone County has a lasting source of support for generations to come. Every gift entrusted to us is carefully invested, allowing us to provide sustainable funding for local nonprofi ts, scholarships, and community initiatives. Asset building is more than just growing a fund—it’s about strengthening the fabric of our community, creating opportunities, and ensuring that philanthropy continues to make an impact far into the future.
In 2024, we were honored to welcome an incredible group of businesses as CFBC sponsors, each demonstrating a strong commitment to the future of Boone County. Their generosity helps us expand our reach, enhance our programs, and maximize the impact of philanthropy in our community. These businesses recognize that a thriving local foundation benefits everyone, and their partnership is a testament to their dedication to giving back. We are deeply grateful for their support and their role in building a stronger, more vibrant Boone County for all.

When Pete and Sandy Obremskey moved to Boone County in 1964, they were welcomed with open arms. That sense of community inspired a lifelong commitment of giving back.
“At first, we gave through volunteer service,” Sandy recalled. “As time went on, we were fortunate to provide financial support as well.” Over the years, the Obremskeys’ contributions grew alongside CFBC. “It’s up to us – community members – to step up and help fill gaps where the Community Foundation of Boone County needs support to help the community,” she said.
Pete and Sandy’s daughter, Katie Reasoner, grew up surrounded by that spirit of giving, a value also passed down from her grandmother, Stasia Obremskey, an immigrant from Poland who made a significant impact on her local community in southern Indiana. Now, Katie is committed to instilling the same values alongside her husband Tim with their own children in Zionsville.
“When children see their parents actively engaged in improving and supporting their community, they are likely to follow.”
While on a family vacation over the holidays several years ago, the 13 Obremskey grandchildren each chose a nonprofit to donate to in honor of a cousin. “It was powerful to see what causes mattered to each cousin,” Katie said. “The nonprofits ranged from local organizations like the Boone County Cancer Society and Boys & Girls Club of Boone County, to international initiatives supporting women and children in Uganda and Zimbabwe.”
Through generations of giving, the Obremskey family has built a legacy – one that ensures Boone County will continue to thrive, not just today, but for years to come.
At our 2024 Impact Breakfast, we were reminded once again of the incredible generosity and dedication of our supporters. With nearly 90 partners, donors, fund advisors, and friends in attendance, we gathered to celebrate the power of philanthropy and the vital role a strong community foundation plays in Boone County’s future.
Thanks to the commitment of those in the room and the event sponsors, we raised more than $100,000 towards our goal of $825,000, bringing us closer to unlocking the $1.5 million gift from the Lilly Endowment.
We are deeply grateful to see that the community believes in and invests in this work. The support at the breakfast and continued support ensures that Boone County has a thriving community foundation—one that will continue to serve, strengthen, and uplift our region for generations to come.
In 2024, we also hosted our Tacos & Tequila Donor Stewardship Event as a heartfelt way to express our gratitude to the incredible volunteers, donors, community partners, and supporters who make our work possible. Surrounded by great company, delicious food, and lively conversation, our staff and board had the opportunity to personally thank those who give their time, resources, and passion to strengthening Boone County.
This gathering was more than just a celebration—it was a reminder of the strong, dedicated community that believes in the power of a thriving foundation. We are truly grateful for each and every person who walks alongside us in this mission, and we look forward to continuing this work together.
It’s what we do at the Community Foundation of Boone County. We receive gifts from people all over this county we call home. We invest those gifts so they grow and maximize the resources we have to support the many nonprofits that help Boone County thrive.
Our endowed funds are invested to preserve the original value of these gifts and grow our assets over time. We employ a moderate growth strategy in which 60% are invested in equities, 20% in fixed income vehicles, and 20% in liquid alternatives. Our investment strategy has produced excellent results for Boone County in both stable and unstable markets spanning three decades.

Consistent with prior years and observing industry best practices, the Community Foundation of Boone County engaged the services of Estep Burkey Simmons to perform an audit of the records and 2024 financial statements. The Community Foundation of Boone County will submit a 2024 Form 990, which the IRS requires us to file annually.
