In September 2021, members of the Women of Impact (WoI) philanthropic giving group brought their passion to support local nonprofits together and voted WAVE (We All Value Each-Other) as the 2021 third quarter grantee.
WAVE benefits students in the Western Boone County Community School Corporation, grades K-12. Once open, the program will be a safe, positive, and supportive environment for students from Thorntown Elementary and Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School and will provide after-school activities, educational support, life-skills training, and healthy meals. WAVE will meet above Town Hall in Thorntown in their own space and will be open Mondays and Wednesday from 2:45-3:30 pm and will rely on volunteers to fulfill the mission.
WAVE’s vision is to show each child that they are valued and important to both the community and each other. WAVE will encircle these children with the love and support they need to become productive citizens in society and ultimately pay that forward.
WAVE continues to push forward in anticipation of opening its doors to the community in November of 2021. To help them reach their goal, they are looking for volunteers and donations: monetary, items, and skills. Specific needs include help finish painting, finishing the stairs, replacing kitchen countertops, and an overall cleaning of the entire space before filling it with the donations received through the remodel process. They are currently seeking donations of kitchen items, new games and puzzles, building sets, and art supplies.
This Women of Impact grant will help WAVE complete needed updates, including a storage closet, purchasing light fixture and ceiling fans, safety updates for the furnace, stairwell needs, and purchasing tables, chairs, and laptops. Email WAVE to get connected (thorntownwave@gmail.com) and follow them on Facebook to stay updated!
