The Community Foundation of Boone County continues to award more impact grants in 2022. Earlier this year, CFBC awarded $75,000 to Isaiah 117 House Boone County, a local nonprofit organization providing support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting foster care placement. They then awarded a total of $150,000 to the Big 4 Trail for mile marker signage and murals.
In April 2022, CFBC awarded a total of $120,000 in matching grants to four Boone County-serving nonprofits: Boone County Cancer Society, Boone County Senior Services, Inc., ILADD, Inc. (Intellectual Living for Adults with Developmental/Intellectual Disabilities) and SAWs (Servants At Work, Inc.). These recipients each committed to raising $30,000 between May 1 – September 1, 2022, with up to $30,000 being matched by CFBC.
SAWs is the first of four grantees to reach the $30,000 goal. This week, CFBC and SAWs Board Members and Staff met at a Boone County residents home to celebrate. The resident recently had a SAWs ramp installed at no cost to her due to her needing assistance getting in and out of her home.
“Having this ramp is life changing for my son and I”, she shared. “We both need help getting in and out of our home, and having this ramp here really helps us!”
SAWs is a nonprofit, volunteer organization founded nearly 20 years ago in Indianapolis. They specialize in building wooden wheelchair ramps for low-income, permanently disabled individuals. With the support of donors and volunteers, lives are changed one ramp at a time. In less than six hours, they transfer a client’s life with the installment of a ramp.
“The CFBC Board of Directors, Staff, and Grants Committee are excited to continue awarding these milestone, impact matching grants, as a way to continue filling local unmet needs on a larger scale to make a greater impact.” – Jodi Gietl, CFBC President & CEO. “The SAWs organization is doing amazing work in Boone County, helping people enter and exit their homes. Many of us take that for granted, and yet SAWs saw a need 20 years ago and has been expanding and building ramps every year since. We are grateful to them for their passion and dedication to serve others!”
You can support SAWs by volunteering on a team, volunteer as a Project Manager or Grant Writer, donate, and more. Visit Connect Boone County to learn more about how you can get involved: https://connectboonecounty.org/organization-details/1465.
