In November 2021, members of the Women of Impact (WoI) philanthropic giving group brought their passion to support local nonprofits together and voted Live for Life, Inc. as the 2021 fourth quarter grantee.
Live for Life exists to empower women with supportive housing as the first means of rebuilding their lives. They work with ladies to reunite, support, and strengthen families. Since their inception in 2019, Live for Life has provided supportive services to more than 50 women leaving incarceration and/or in addiction recovery.
Live for Life focuses first on providing housing for their ladies. They partner with New Beginnings, in Lebanon, to secure safe housing for ladies receiving supportive services. They currently have 7 women and 3 children between the ages of 2 months and 5 years in housing receiving support. In the housing, there are two Certified Community Health Workers and a group of 25 Mentors available to assist with a variety of services. They partner heavily with Love, Inc., Aspire, Goodwill, and others to provide services to residents. Since partnering with New Beginnings, they’ve proudly had 3 residents receive mortgage approval to purchase a home. Live for Life wants to increase this number by working with a local bank or mortgage company.
Live for Life also provides a variety of supportive services to the ladies in housing. These services include but are not limited to: Life mentoring through the L.I.F.T. (Ladies in Forward Transformation) Program, transportation assistance, probation & DCS liaison services, budgeting, and locating services within Boone County to assist as needed with mental health, child care, household needs.
“Live for life, Inc. acts as a funnel for those leaving incarceration or in addiction recovery”, says Michelle Standeford, Live for Life President/Co-Founder. “We help them with anything and everything they may need, with housing being first priority because without housing, employment is almost impossible, a focus on mental health is non-existent, and getting their feet planted to start over just doesn’t happen.”
