Two 2017 Boone County Lilly Endowment Community Scholars will be named in December 2016. Previous scholarship recipients were identified in March of the year they graduated from high school. The change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.
The advanced timeline is the result of a “compelling recommendation” from community foundations who participated in a statewide evaluation of the program conducted by Lilly Endowment in 2015. During the evaluation process, a number of community foundations suggested that identifying Lilly Scholars earlier in the school year would allow more time for them to decide which college or university to attend.
The Community Foundation of Boone County is adjusting its timeline accordingly for choosing its local scholars. Completed applications will be due to the Community Foundation on September 8, 2016.
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship provides full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of up to $900 per year for books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study at any Indiana public or private college or university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
To be eligible, students must be a Boone County resident graduating from a regionally accredited high school by the end of June 2017, in the upper 20% of his/her high school graduating class after 6 semesters and planning to pursue a full-time baccalaureate course of study beginning in the fall of 2017 at an accredited private or public college or university in Indiana. More information and applications are available HERE.
Deadlines for all other donor-established scholarships administered through the Community Foundation of Boone County will remain unchanged; those applications will be available in December 2016 and due February 2017.
