In the Community Foundation’s Spring eNews, we introduced you to the Arc’s new Transition Coordinator, Margaret Oberweiser. Read more about Margaret in a story by Marcia Clutter.
The Arc of Greater Boone County welcomes Margaret Oberweiser as Transition Coordinator. In this newly created role, she will assist with transition service efforts for special education students and families in all three Boone County high schools. She will provide hands-on coordination and direct services for students moving on to adult life. This new initiative has been integrated into The Arc’s Job Connection program, and has been made possible through a grant from The Community Foundation of Boone County. The grant supports the transition initiative fully through the first year, and partially through the second year, after which it will be sustainable by The Arc of Greater Boone County.
Margaret comes to The Arc after working at Bona Vista for the last year as an Employment Specialist. Prior to that she was very active in the Zionsville Community School District as a Substitute Teacher, PTO Board Member and volunteer. She is excited to supplement and support what the school systems are doing to develop great outcomes for young adults in Boone County. Margaret lives in Zionsville with her husband and four children.
Wednesday, February 25th, The Arc hosted a breakfast meeting to introduce Margaret to staff members at the three high schools. In attendance from Zionsville High School – Cathy Fuelling, Katie O’Brien, and Julie Noel; from Lebanon High School – Bernadette Klooz-Mahoy and Bill Gee; from Western Boone – Rita Newton and Jamie Klinge; from Boone-Clinton-NW Hendricks Joint Services – Madeline Sandberg; from Indiana University’s Institute On Disability and Community – Teresa Grossi; and from the Community Foundation of Boone County – Barb Schroeder.
