In March 2023, members of the Women of Impact (WOI) philanthropic giving group brought their passion to support local nonprofits together and voted Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center as their first-quarter grantee to receive a check in the amount of $11,410.

The mission of Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center is to reduce trauma to child victims of abuse by allowing them to tell their story in a safe, comfortable, and child-focused environment, with a trained forensic interviewer who will ask age-appropriate and non-leading questions. The child’s multidisciplinary team of law enforcement, prosecutor’s office, child protective services, mental health provider, and victim advocate work together to shepherd the child and his or her family toward the first steps of healing. Clients are not charged for any of the services provided by Sylvia’s. Grants like this from Women of Impact will help to cover the cost of $300 per interview, as well as educational and developmental programming throughout the county.

“1 in 10 children are victims of sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. Our team here at Sylvia’s serves an average of 180 children per year. We appreciate the many community partners we have and the support we receive to continue serving these children.” -Kassie Frazier, Executive Director of Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center

The community can support Sylvia’s Child Advocacy Center in several ways. They are always in need of individually packaged snacks and juice boxes for the kids, gas cards for clients, copy paper, trash bags, toilet paper, and cleaning items. They also are looking for volunteers and sponsors for their golf outing on October 2, 2023 at Golf Club of Indiana. Contact Sylvia’s directly to make a donation, volunteer, and become a sponsor.
