The Community Foundation of Boone County is honored to award the Lionel Dubay Youth Sports Award. This award was established in 1993 by Lionel Dubay‘s wife Gwen, his friends, and community donations to continue his legacy. Lionel was a vital parent & supporter of youth sports in Zionsvile. He was an active member of multiple sports organizations including Little League & Youth Soccer Association, and was instrumental in starting pee-wee football in Zionsville.
Every year, this award recognizes someone who has made an ongoing commitment to Zionsville youth sports. The nomination form is open to the community for community members to submit nominations. The CFBC Grants Committee then reviews all applications and determines the recipient who then pays it forward by selecting a nonprofit organiztion that benefits youth sports in the community to receive an unrestricted grant.
Running is hard. But running is much easier with Marty & Vicki Wilkey by your side.
Year after year, it is demonstrated how blessed Zionsville is to have so many wonderful people pouring into our local youth through the several nominations received for this award. The 2022 Lionel Dubay Sports Award recipients, Marty & Vicki Wilkey, make an impact in so many children’s lives. They have served as cross country head coaches & track assistant coaches at Zionsville Middle School since 2013. They have co-created a team culture marked by community, friendship, determination, and trust. They consistently pour themselves out for the kids on their team & make themselves available as mentors & friends for kids who have left ZMS. They go above & beyond standards coach expectations- they complete team-building activities, host family race nights with parents & siblings, hand-write & deliver motivational notes to nearly 100 runners each fall. They develop leadership in their athletes & complete service activities alongside them. They genuinely believe middle schoolers can do hard things.
We were joined by several community members to present the award to the Wilkey’s, as well as celebrate the installment of the new plaques honoring all recipients of this award, which are now hung in Zionsville Town Hall.
