DIRECTOR OF FINANCE & INVESTMENTS
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Director of Finance & Investments is a key leadership role within the Community Foundation of Boone County organization and is responsible for managing the financial operations and investment strategies of its endowment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the long-term financial stability and growth of the organization by overseeing the management of financial resources and making sound investment decisions.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Management:
- Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and best practices.
- Prepare and manage the annual budget, working closely with senior leadership and the Finance Committee to align financial plans with organizational goals and objectives.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including cash flow management, accounting, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including the preparation of financial statements and coordination of external audits.
Investment Management:
- Implement an investment strategy for the endowment, in collaboration with the Investment Committee and its external investment advisors.
- Monitor investment performance and provide regular reports to the finance and investment committees and board of directors.
- Manage relationships with investment managers, custodians, and other external partners, ensuring effective communication and adherence to investment policies.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess financial risks to the organization and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
- Monitor compliance with legal, regulatory, and fiduciary obligations related to financial management and investments.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and prevent fraud.
Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including the finance and investment committees, and board of directors, providing financial expertise and guidance.
- Collaborate with program managers and other staff to ensure financial considerations are integrated into decision-making processes.
- Engage with external stakeholders, such as investment advisors, auditors, banks, and regulatory agencies, to ensure effective financial management and compliance.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. CPA and/or Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CFA) preferred.
- Proven experience in financial management, preferably in a nonprofit organization or endowment context.
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial accounting and reporting standards (e.g., GAAP, FASB).
- Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks for nonprofit organizations.
- Ability to work in a hybrid office setting at our Lebanon, Indiana office.
- Some evenings and weekends as needed based on event and meeting schedules.
- Must be familiar with (and preference given to residence in) Boone County.
