The Cabin Counseling & Resource Center, Inc., $2900

Since The Cabin was founded in 1999, its staff and counselors have been working to provide the best treatment available to make their mission a reality. In their efforts to offer diverse counseling options, The Cabin has been undertaking efforts to expand services with adventure therapy. While traditional, office-based, outpatient therapy aids many of Boone County’s residents, there is a significant lack of treatment diversity offered by mental health practitioners in Boone County. This $2,900 grant will kick-start the program to provide resources to purchase Adventure Therapy gear including climbing ropes, harnesses, carabiners, as well as equipment necessary to set up a camp site. The goal of The Cabin’s Climbing Adventure Therapy is to conduct groups of middle and high school boys, ranging from 4 to 6 participants, once a month. “As this programs matures, it is my hope to grow it into other avenues of treatment including mountain biking, kayaking, and hiking. This grant will provide the initial inertia we need to get the ball rolling and provide our first Climbing Adventure Therapy camp in spring, 2016,” Rob Kern, Counselor.
